After announcing the addition of 14k gold to their materials offerings, 3D printing service bureau Shapeways is continuing to pump up its precious metals portfolio, today announcing the ability to cast 3D printed objects in platinum, 18k gold, 14k rose gold, and 14k white gold. As with the wax casting process for 14k gold, objects are first 3D printed in wax, which is used to make a plaster mold, in which the molten metal of your choice is poured in to cast the final result.
Shiny, durable, and silver-white, Platinum, Shapeways describes, is “the most precious of all precious metals.” Perfect for custom, 3D printed grillz and other face decor. Then, you’ve got your 18k gold, 14k’s bright, vibrant sibling – best used for 3D printing golden idols. Rose gold gets its name from its pink hue and white gold is for those who want to stay classy, but want to be subtle about it. All of these metals are ideal for establishing Shapeways as a go-to place for purchasing intricately designed jewelry. Expanding their place in the jewelry industry is definitely a smart move by the service bureau and they seem to know it!
